Event: Capitol Holiday Walk.

Sponsors and Dates: The Capitol Volkssport Club and Phoenix Inn invite everyone to join them at the State Capitol Building on Saturday, December 4, 2010.

Cost: IVV Credit only is $3.00. Free walkers are welcome, but all walkers must register, and carry and return a Start Card. There is no need to pre-register.

Hatpin/Patch: The new pin for 2010 is $3.25. The Capitol Holiday embroidered patch is $3.00.

AVA Sanction#/Distances: 85878. Walkers may chose either a 5K (3.1 miles) or 10K (6.2 miles) walk; both walks are rated 1+.

AVA Challenges: State Capitols, Veterans Memorials, Authors, Carnegie Libraries, Historic Churches, Artistic Heritage, Museums, Firehouses.

ESVA Challenges: Thurston County, All Clubs, Art Galleries, Statues, Fountains, Murals, Mountains.

Starting Point: The State Capitol Building in Olympia on Saturday, December 4. Starting time is between 3 and 6 PM, and the finish time is 9 PM.

Description: Start at the decorated Christmas tree in the State Capitol Building. Walk around Capitol Lake, through three parks, along the waterfront, and through downtown Olympia beneath lighted street trees. The lighted ship parade starts at 6 PM.

Driving Directions: From I-5 Northbound or Southbound: Take Exit 105, then follow signs to State Capitol Campus. Parking is available at the State Capitol Visitor Center parking lot, elsewhere on the Capitol Campus, and along local streets.

Start/Finish Times: Walkers may begin walking anytime between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. and must be finished by 9 p.m.

Facilities/Pets: Restrooms and water will be available at the start and finish and at the checkpoint. Coffee and cookies will be available at the checkpoint. Pets are permitted but NOT in buildings. Owners must observe leash and clean up laws.

Accessibility: The walk is suitable for strollers and wheelchairs. A flashlight is STRONGLY RECOMMENDED for all walkers, as it will be dark shortly after 5 PM and sidewalks can be uneven.
