CVC Special Event Seabreeze - February 19-21, 2011 This event features five walks and a bike in and around Ocean Shores, WA, as well as the quarterly ESVA meeting at 1 PM Saturday and a Saturday evening social.
Event: Seabreeze 2011 at Ocean Shores, WA. Sponsors and Dates: The Capitol Volkssport Club invites walkers and cyclists to join them at Ocean Shores Saturday thru Monday of Presidents' Day Weekend, February 19-21, 2011. AVA Sanction#/Distances:
Challenges: Grays Harbor County, All Clubs, Museums, State Parks, Art, Fire Stations, Post Offices, Law Enforcement, Libraries, Islands, Statues. Driving Directions: I-5 Northbound and Southbound: Take Exit 104 (US 101). Continue westbound as US 101 becomes SR 8 and then US 12 and finally US 101 again, passing through Aberdeen and Hoquiam, then follow signs to Ocean Shores. The entrance to Ocean Shores is Point Brown Ave. Turn right onto Chance-a-la-Mer at the traffic circle, then take the next right which is Ocean Shores Blvd. Drive .1 mile to the Ocean Shores Lions Club on the right. Starting Point: Ocean Shores Lions Club, located at 832 Ocean Shores Blvd NW in Ocean Shores, WA.
Start/Finish Times: Walkers may begin walking any time between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. daily, and must be finished by 5 PM on Saturday and Sunday, or by 3 PM on Monday. There will be a friendship walk leaving at 10 AM daily. Saturday Evening Social: The Saturday Night Social is an Italian buffet featuring Caesar salad, several kinds of pasta, Italian sausage, Chicken Parmesan, coffee, decaf, tea, and dessert. Cost is $15.00 per person (includes tax and gratuity). Advance reservation is required, and seating is limited to the first 60 tickets sold. No tickets will be sold at the door. Facilities/Pets: Restrooms and water will be available at the start and finish, also at restaurants or stores (where they exist) along the routes. Pets are permitted but NOT in buildings. Owners must observe leash and clean up laws. Cost: Those walking for American Volkssport Association credit will pay $3 per walk, but free participants are welcome. All walkers and cyclists must register, carry, and return a start card. An embroidered patch is available for $3.
Hotel Reservations: Please note this event occurs on a holiday weekend, so it would be prudent to make hotel reservations early. If you would like to come early, stay late, or walk on your way down and back, we have YREs for you. These can be found in Ocean Shores, Westport, Aberdeen, Grand Mound, Olympia, Lacey, Tumwater, Shelton, Centralia, and Chehalis. Details of all of these are on the CVC website under Everyday Walks. Walk details: All walks, and the bike route, are MAP ONLY routes; there will be no trail markings. Beach walks: 6K or 11K, rated 1+. Walk along the beach side of Point Brown at Ocean Shores. These walks are not suitable for strollers or wheelchairs. Bayside walks: 6K or 11K or 20K, rated 1. Walk along the bay side of Point Brown at Ocean Shores, with views of Mt. Rainier and the Olympics (weather permitting). The 20K walk returns to the start point via the beach. The 6K and 11K walks are suitable for strollers or wheelchairs, the 20K walk is not. Damon Point State Park walks: 5K or 7K or 10K, rated 2. Walk beside the river and through the marshes in Damon Point State Park. These walks are not suitable for strollers or wheelchairs. Griffiths-Priday State Park walks: 5K or 10K or 12K, rated 2. Walk along paths through the dunes in Griffiths-Priday State Park, and out to a remote beach situated between Conner Creek and the Copalis River. This is one of two new walks for 2011. These walks are not suitable for strollers or wheelchairs. Moclips walks: 5K or 10K, rated 2. Walk from Moclips to Pacific Beach and back along the more rugged and rocky North Beach. This is one of two new walks for 2011. These walks are not suitable for strollers or wheelchairs. Bike details: 26K, rated 1.
