CVC Traveling Guided Walk - Grand Mound/Rochester/Scatter Creek Walk
Event: Grand Mound/Rochester and Scatter Creek Traveling Guided Walk ESVA Challenges: Thurston County. AVA Special Programs: None provided. AVA Sanction#/Distance/Rating: 131986 - 2026 - 10K with 5K option - Rated 1B. Dates: May 19, 2026. Description: Walk on the Scatter Creek Prairie on dirt trails and gravel road. Enjoy views of Mt. Rainier and wild flowers as you go. Parking and Access: A Washington State Parks Discover Pass is required to park at or access the Scatter Creek Wildlife Area, within which a large portion of this event is located. Start/End Location: Scatter Creek Wildlife Area North Unit parking lot. Driving Directions: 17100 Case Rd SW, Rochester, WA. From Olympia take I-5 South. Take exit 95. Right on Maytown Rd. Left on Case Rd (past Farm Boy Restaurant). Drive 4.4 miles to parking area with rusty yellow metal gate and cement outhouse. From northbound I-5, take exit 95 for WA 121 toward Littlerock/Maytown. Turn left onto 121 south/Maytown Rd SW. Turn right onto Maytown Rd SW. Turn left on Case Rd. (past Farm Boy Restaurant). Proceed as above. Start/Finish Times: Register by 5:45 PM; walk begins at 6:00 PM. Make sure you are done by dusk, as there are NO LIGHTS WHATEVER in the Wildlife Area. Accessability/Amenities: Not possible for strollers or wheelchairs. Pets are allowed. Restrooms are in the Scatter Creek Wildlife Area.
